Every now and then, Ellen and Billy create something together. This piece was written in honor of their dear friends, Rabbi Les Bronstein and Cantor Benjie Schiller, on the occasion of their retirement. The text comes from Pirkei Avot 3:2 (English words by Ellen and Billy), celebrating Jewish learning and, really, any pursuit that is “for the sake of heaven” (that is, to better life and living for all). Les and Benjie have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for all of us, regardless of the differences between us (differences which are really the treasures we are privileged to share with one another).
